More than half of the world’s population lives in urban areas. Are all urban areas cities? That is a very good question. Let’s take a closer look! Explore’s TOWN JOURNEY to see some of the oldest towns in the world. Some are no longer inhabited, while others continue to flourish. Cities started as villages attracting people looking for access to water, food, protection, and opportunities away from migratory lives or lives in rural farming areas. Early cities were agrarian in that they had the basic elements of water and food. The water and food and protection called people from the surrounding areas.
